The Furniture and Wood Products Association of Ghana (FAWAG) is the private association of Ghana's furniture and wood processing industry. It was incorporated under the companies code 1963 (Act 176) as a company Limited by Guarantee in October, 1979. Our organization is committed to the sustainable development and growth of the furniture and wood processing industries in Ghana. FAWAG's membership includes over 120 producers of furniture and a wide variety of wood-based products.


Aims and Objectives

FAWAG maintains four primary objectives:

  • Providing a central forum for the promotion of the interest of furniture and wood processing industries in Ghana;
  • Representing industry's interests before government, parliament, ministries,public boards and corporations;
  • Encouraging and promoting large scale exports of Ghana-made furniture and wood products by organising and participating in fairs and exhibitions both at home and abroad;
  • Providing for effective communications among all sectors of our industry.

Recognition

FAWAG is recognised both locally and internationally as the voice of the Ghanaian furniture and wood products industry. Furthermore, FAWAG is represented on various Government Boards and institutions.

Membership Eligibility

Membership is open to all categories of Ghanaian companies registered in furniture production or tertiary wood processing. Our membership comprises small-, medium- and large-scale wood processing companies in Ghana.

Relationships with Counterpart Organisations

FAWAG is a member of the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE) and an associate member of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI).

Executive Council

FAWAG is governed by an Executive Council headed by a President. The Council is the major policy formulating body dealing with all matters affecting members.

Forum

FAWAG, in collaboration with relevant local and international institutions, organises workshops and seminars where members are brought up-to-date on fast changing production and marketing techniques in the industry. In addition, regional meetings are held throughout Ghana creating an opportunity for local members to share common ideas relevant to their peculiar needs.

Our Annual General Meeting brings together all of our members and the Executive Council, where we take stock of FAWAG's stewardship for the year and address specific member concerns.

The Ghana International Furniture and Woodworking Industry Exhibition (GIFEX) founded by the Association in 1985 and organised bi-annually in Accra, is the major event where members can exhibit their products and conduct meaningful business with local and international partners.

Wood Village

The Association has initiated a Wood Village Project in Kumasi since 1991, spreading over a total area of 150 acres. To ensure that the project is run in a business-like manner, a subsidiary company known as Kumasi Wood Estate Limited (KWEL) was established to manage the day-to-day administration. The project is intended to upgrade the skills of producers in the forest industry in Ghana to enable them improve on their production and processing skills and ensure the better utilisation of Ghana's forests.

FAWAG organises serminars and workshops for it's members to enable them face the challenges in global trade.

All members receive the Asociation's quarterly newsletter - ASESEGUA - as well as circulars on timely and specific issues.

FAWAG has a permanent Secretariat headed by a full time Executive Secretary located at the Trade Fair Centre, Accra, Ghana.
