Aims and Objectives FAWAG maintains four primary objectives:
Recognition FAWAG is recognised both locally and internationally as the voice of the Ghanaian furniture and wood products industry. Furthermore, FAWAG is represented on various Government Boards and institutions. Membership Eligibility
Membership is open to all categories of Ghanaian companies registered in furniture production or tertiary wood processing. Our membership comprises small-, medium- and large-scale wood processing companies in Ghana.
Relationships with Counterpart Organisations FAWAG is a member of the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE) and an associate member of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI). Executive Council FAWAG is governed by an Executive Council headed by a President. The Council is the major policy formulating body dealing with all matters affecting members. Forum FAWAG, in collaboration with relevant local and international institutions, organises workshops and seminars where members are brought up-to-date on fast changing production and marketing techniques in the industry. In addition, regional meetings are held throughout Ghana creating an opportunity for local members to share common ideas relevant to their peculiar needs. Our Annual General Meeting brings together all of our members and the Executive Council, where we take stock of FAWAG's stewardship for the year and address specific member concerns. The Ghana International Furniture and Woodworking Industry Exhibition (GIFEX) founded by the Association in 1985 and organised bi-annually in Accra, is the major event where members can exhibit their products and conduct meaningful business with local and international partners. Wood Village The Association has initiated a Wood Village Project in Kumasi since 1991, spreading over a total area of 150 acres. To ensure that the project is run in a business-like manner, a subsidiary company known as Kumasi Wood Estate Limited (KWEL) was established to manage the day-to-day administration. The project is intended to upgrade the skills of producers in the forest industry in Ghana to enable them improve on their production and processing skills and ensure the better utilisation of Ghana's forests.
